SPIRAL

In the days before the materialists, humans were very aware of their gods, and of the spirits in everything around them, including the winds, the rocks, the plants and to all the creatures of the sky, the land and the sea. Through these relationships, everything was treated as sacred. Our ancestors lived in harmony with the environment and the gods provided for them.

And then we forgot. We grew monsters with our dissatisfactions and contentions. The monsters’ hunger knew no limits, and they were not sated, no matter how much we fed them. The earth grew bare and lonely. And the plants, creatures and forces of the earth turned away or disappeared, for lack of attention.

And then floods, fierce fires and winds or earthquakes destroyed nearly everything. Shook it up. And then another world emerged from the destruction. And we could hear again. We could see and we remembered who we really are, and where we really come from, and where we are going, together. We lingered there for a while in that field of beautiful memory. And then what hadn’t been put to rest emerged. It could have been a scorned lover, a brother jealous of another, an envious friend, a greedy ruler. It took only one furious split of passion and the rest of us followed. Humans are tender like that—we are the same human of wild and sweet.

And so we built the same story all up again, out of the same materials constructed from gravity, addiction, love and need.

Now we are in it again, making stories in the marked rise of forgetfulness. Clean, fresh water is becoming a memory. Only a few remember how to sing and talk to the spirits of the earth. Intimate transformational moments that bind us together: birth and death, have been taken over by the shining corporate system of metal, money and machines. When we lose the connection, we lose the doorways to wisdom, we forget how to begin and end. The monsters are disguised as rulers, leaders, bureaucrats and celebrities. People are enslaved to production to feed the fat banks of these rulers. Children run the streets with guns, ragged for love. Those with money, packing fear or the prospect of fame, are given respect; no matter the means of the acquisition.

What kind of love is this America?

Light shines through human mistakes.

AS CYCLES TURN AND REPEAT THE SAME REVOLUTIONS, THEY HAVE SLOWLY CHANGED.
THIS GRADUAL EVOLUTION IS THE "SPIRAL" PATH, ALONG WHICH THE CYCLES HAVE BEEN TURNING.
FOR MILLIONS OF YEARS, THE CHANGES HAVE COME SLOWLY.
NOW, WE ARE WITNESSING MAJOR UPHEAVALS IN THE RELATIVE BLINK OF AN EYE.

HERE IN THE "AMERICAS" (AND OTHER INDIGENOUS AREAS AROUND THE WORLD), MOST OF THE PARTICULARLY DESTRUCTIVE CHANGES HAVE OCCURED WITH THE ARRIVAL OF THE COLONISTS AND THEIR "COLONIAL" RELIGIONS.
THEY WERE QUICK TO CONDEMN THE GODS AND SPIRITS OF WHICH YOU SPEAK, AS PAGAN "TOOLS OF THE DEVIL".

IT WAS (AND IS) VERY IMPORTANT TO MANY FOLLOWERS OF THESE GIANT CULTS, OR SO-CALLED "MAINSTREAM" RELIGIONS, TO DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO DISCREDIT TRADITIONAL INDIGENOUS WAYS.
EVEN "NATIVE" CONVERTS NOW OFTEN VIEW THE WAYS OF THEIR ANCESTORS WITH SCORN AND CONTEMPT.
CLOSE TO HOME, WE HAVE HEARD HOW GOOD "CHURCH FOLK" HAVE SPOKEN OF TRADITIONAL CEREMONIES.

AS THE SPIRAL WINDS TIGHTER, EVERYTHING IS ACCELERATING.
MANY PEOPLE FEEL ANXIOUS AND RUSHED, YET THEY DO NOT KNOW WHY.
THE MATERIALISTS OF WHOM YOU SPEAK, HAVE LITTLE OR NO CONCEPT OF THE LARGER PICTURE.

THEY SEEM TO THINK THAT ACQUISITION OF SO-CALLED "WEALTH" AND "FAME" ON OUR SMALL PLANET, ACTUALLY MEANS SOMETHING BEYOND THEIR DELUSIONS OF SELF-IMPORTANCE.

WITHIN THE GREAT MYSTERY, WE ARE SPECKS; YET, WE ARE PART OF EVERYTHING.
THIS SHOULD BE ENOUGH.

WHY MUST HUMANS INSIST THAT, IN ALL OF THE UNIVERSE, IN ALL TIME AND SPACE, THEY ARE THE "CHOSEN ONES" AND THERE IS A BIG GRANDDADDY HUMANOID THAT THEY CALL GOD, JEHOVAH, ALLAH (OR A HOST OF OTHER NAMES) WHO IS FLOATING JUST ABOVE THE ATMOSPHERE, MAKING SURE THAT EVERYONE FOLLOWS THEIR IMPERIALIST AGENDA AND JUDGES AND CONDEMNS NON-BELIEVERS?

WHEN HUMANS CONTINUE TO CARRY THESE ARROGANT DELUSIONS-OF-GRANDEUR, IT IS EASY FOR THEM TO SEE ALL NON-HUMANS AND THE ENTIRE PLANET AS COMMODITIES FOR OUR "USE".
THOUGH MANY OF OUR SO-CALLED LEADERS ARE PARTICULARLY DESPICABLE, THEY ARE NOT ALONE IN THESE IGNORANT AND ARROGANT ATTITUDES.
SUCH VIEWS ARE INHERENT IN THE MAJOR "RELIGIONS"; THOSE MANMADE ENTITIES WHICH LACK ANY SEMBLANCE OF SPIRITUALITY.

The earth voice, the oldest story, sings; we are teaching our children to be tone deaf. They run in the streets with guns but also with iPods and cell phones, their ears and hearts stopped up, unable to hear the pulse of their mothers, their Mother, their own sweet flesh. As their human elders, we must sing them to sweetness and to attention. Through our ears and mouths, the universe pours. They are hungry, and we must woo them--through beauty, through love--to open.

I too, share the sentiments expressed very well by 'whitehorse'. Sometimes, the feeling of fatalism associated with our mutual plight on this planet seems un-resolvable. How does one reach those bound to their own disimbodied dream of a [false] reality. As Paul Simon so eloquently sang in "The Boxer" [all lies in jest until a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest"].

The major religious paradigms [or giant cults] all stress [or result in] a disconnectedness with nature. Much of their 'good messages' are buried under [and subverted to] various control mechanisms known as capitalism, sexism, racism, et al. while stressing pain and distress in this life. Paens to fear and greed. Few appear to walk their [good] talk. How many righteous christians, jews or muslims would demonstrate the love and understanding shown by the Amish during the recent tragedy in Pennsylvania? Too few, I conjecture. Too much righteous indignation, too little compassion and care [for anything except greed].

Is it any wonder that nature receives such short shrift, especially in Western [Europeanized] cultures?

However, what little hope I still hold is reinforced by the words of 'francesca eliot'.

As always, I continue to enjoy the power, beauty and truth in Joy's words.
